28th Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts Explores Matrix Concept with International Artists

festival-fair · 2026-04-19

From September 4 to October 25, 2009, the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia, hosted the 28th Biennial of Graphic Arts. The theme, "The Matrix: An Unstable Reality," was selected by artistic leader Bozidar Zrinski. The Grand Prize was awarded to the American collective Justseeds by an international jury that included Katia Anguelova among others. Around 80 artists presented their work, which encompassed graphic arts, video, installations, sound art, photography, and graffiti. A special exhibition from South Korea showcased eight artists, organized by 2007 Grand Prize winner Jeon Joonho. The biennial also featured discussions and workshops, while financial limitations affected available resources. Works by Marko Tadic and others examined ideas of seriality and diffusion.
