24th SURVIVAL Art Review Explores Science and Emotion at Former Wrocław Clinic
The 24th SURVIVAL Art Review, titled "A Finger in the Heart," will be held from June 26 to June 30 at the former Clinic of Psychiatry and Nervous Diseases complex in Wrocław (ul. Bujwida 44). The curatorial team—Michał Bieniek, Daniel Brożek, Małgorzata Miśniakiewicz, and Ewa Pluta—explain that the theme references a plaster cast of the finger of cardiac surgeon Wiktor Bross, who conducted pioneering operations at the clinic. The festival, organized by the Art Transparent Foundation since 2003, takes place outside traditional exhibition spaces, often in abandoned or public sites. This year's venue also has historical ties to Alois Alzheimer, who chaired the university's Department of Psychiatry and served as clinic director in 1912. SURVIVAL co-funds and produces dozens of new artworks each year, accompanied by a Public Forum programme. The festival aims to bring contemporary art issues into public debate, addressing post-1989 transformations in Polish cities.
