24th Milan Triennial Opens with Focus on Inequality
The 24th International Exhibition of Triennale Milano, titled "Inequalities," opens under the presidency of Stefano Boeri, who also serves as General Commissioner. The exhibition runs from May to November 2025, featuring contributions from international designers, scholars, artists, and scientists. Boeri describes this edition as the final part of a trilogy following "Broken Nature" (2019) and "Unknown Unknowns" (2022). The exhibition explores inequality through two main dimensions: geopolitics and biopolitics. Highlights include an installation by Maurizio Molinari on empires, a work by Norman Foster on extreme urban distress, a biodiversity exhibit by Telmo Pievani, a show on aging curated by Nic Palmarini and Marco Sammicheli titled "The Republic of Longevity," and an exploration of bacteria by Mark Wigley and Beatriz Colomina. A significant installation by Filippo Teoldi and Midori Hasuike on the Scalone d'Onore commemorates victims of the Gaza conflict with red fabric strips representing each day from October 7, 2023, to the ceasefire on January 19, 2025. A short film by Amos Gitai will also be shown. The Chinese pavilion focuses on urban policy inequalities, Togo's pavilion uses a wall of faded jeans to highlight labor exploitation, and a Roma and Sinti pavilion addresses isolation. Boeri emphasizes that the exhibition aims to provide hypotheses and insights rather than solutions, stressing that ecological transition must consider inequalities to avoid further harm.
