24-Hour Festival at MACRO Inspired by Ettore Sottsass' 'Il Pianeta come Festival'

On October 23-24, 2021, MACRO in Rome hosts 'Il Pianeta come Festival XL', a 24-hour event organized with Terraforma, dedicated to artistic and sonic experimentation with environmental sustainability. The program includes installations, performances, projections, workshops, and conversations inspired by Ettore Sottsass' 1972 project published in Casabella, envisioning a world free from labor and social conditioning where technology enhances self-awareness and harmony with nature. The event opens with interspecies communication work by Jenna Sutela, sound experimentation by Flora Yin Wong, and a conversation among Luca Lo Pinto, Ruggero Pietromarchi, and Fabio Sargentini. A highlight is an 18-hour marathon performance of Erik Satie's 'Vexations' curated by Ricciarda Belgiojoso, involving 12 pianists and 2 pianos, introduced by John Cage's 4'33''. Jonathan Monk's 'My Mother Cleaning My Father’s Piano' intervenes between performances as a sanitation gesture.
