21 Spanish Bookstores Select Top 25 Books Published Since 2000

A survey of 21 bookstores across Spain has identified the 25 most significant books published between January 1, 2000, and the end of 2025. The selection process involved asking each bookstore for its top 10 titles, with the sole requirement that works were published in Spain after the year 2000, regardless of the author's language or country of origin. This initiative, conducted as an annual year-end review, aimed to move beyond typical gift recommendations for novels, poetry, short stories, comics, and Spanish debuts. The project sought to define the most important literary works of the first quarter of the 21st century. The results were compiled from votes cast bookstore by bookstore, creating a collective list from individual top 10 selections. The survey was part of a broader cultural recap as 2025 concludes, following similar expert-led selections for the best albums of the century. The final list represents a national consensus from booksellers distributed throughout the country.
