2050 Archifest: New Architecture Festival Launches in Colle di Val d'Elsa

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The first edition of 2050 Archifest will take place in Colle di Val d'Elsa, Tuscany, with artistic direction by Francesca Ameglio. The festival, selected under the MiBACT initiative for contemporary architecture, aims to involve citizens in discussions on urban sustainability, covering topics from energy and climate change to mobility and tourism. It will use the city's architectural heritage, including Giovanni Michelucci's covered square, as a laboratory for experimentation. The festival also addresses gender parity in architecture through the 'Architettrici' project, highlighting pioneers like Eileen Gray, Lilly Reich, Charlotte Perriand, and Lina Bo Bardi. A workshop titled 'Colle 2050' will focus on carbon neutrality, building on the province of Siena's earlier achievement of carbon neutrality in 2011. The festival seeks to foster cultural awareness and active citizenship, aiming to transform Colle di Val d'Elsa into a model sustainable city by 2050.
