2024 Asian Art Biennial Explores Breathing as Metaphor for Survival and Resistance

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung inaugurated the 2024 Asian Art Biennial, titled 'How to Hold Your Breath,' on November 16, with the exhibition continuing until March 2. Curated by Fang Yen Hsiang alongside a team of five, the event showcases the creations of 35 artists who examine breathing as a concept of existence and defiance. Highlighted pieces include Pak Sheung Chuen's 2006 video 'Breathing in a House' and two sections curated by artists: 'Resilient Seeds' (2016) by Marwa Arsanios and Mashinka Firunts Hakopian's 2024 video 'One Who Looks at the Cup.' Additional works comprise Yehwan Song's '(Whose) World (How) Wide Web' (2024) and 'Sourceless Waters: White. Shadows' (2024) by Trương Quế Chi and Nguyễn Phương Linh.
