2020-2021 Fellows Announced for Rome's Foreign Academies
The foreign academies of Rome have announced their new fellows for the 2020-2021 residency year, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Académie de France – Villa Medici welcomes 16 residents including composer Noriko Baba, restorer Coralie Barbe, and artist Simon Boudvin, presented during the Nuit Blanche on October 29, 2020. The Deutsche Akademie – Villa Massimo, directed by Julia Draganovic, hosts fellows such as the artistic duo bankleer, visual artist Heike Baranowsky, and architect Gustav Düsing, with a public event Künste at Villa Massimo until October 22. The Istituto Svizzero – Villa Maraini, directed by Joëlle Comé, expands its program with three residencies across Italy: Milan Calling, Palermo Calling, and the main site, featuring artists like Camille Aleña and Roxane Bovet. The Real Academia de España presents 23 new residents including painter Mª Natividad Bermejo Arrieta and video artist Alán Carrasco González, while its current exhibition Processi 147 runs until December 2020. The American Academy in Rome awarded the Rome Prize to 22 American scholars and artists, including archaeologist Dillon Gisch and architect Katy Barkan, plus three Italian fellows Francesca Berni and Sara Enrico, with residencies starting in January 2021 due to the pandemic.
