2014 Praemium Imperiale Awards Honor Five International Figures Across Arts Disciplines

The Japan Art Association has announced the five honorees for the 2014 Praemium Imperiale awards. The painting accolade goes to Martial Raysse, while Giuseppe Penone is honored in the sculpture category. The architecture prize is awarded to Steven Holl, Arvo Pärt receives recognition for music, and Athol Fugard is celebrated in theatre/film. Each awardee will be granted a 15 million yen honorarium. Now in its 26th iteration, these annual awards recognize individuals with notable international impact in their respective disciplines. This year, the Grant for Young Artists will be presented to the Zinsou Foundation of Benin. The formal award ceremony is scheduled for October 15 in Tokyo.
