200 artists occupy 150 rooms of Turin's Cavallerizza Reale for self-managed exhibition
Nearly 200 visual artists have transformed 150 rooms across 42 apartments in Turin's Cavallerizza Reale complex into a self-managed exhibition titled 'Here.' The show, running from May 13 to 22, 2016, is organized by Assemblea Cavallerizza 14:45, a group of citizens, culture professionals, students, and associations that have occupied the UNESCO-listed Savoy military academy for two years to prevent its privatization. Participants responded to an open call launched in March, ranging from emerging talents to established figures like Nunzio and Piero Gilardi. Many artists cleaned, reorganized, and installed their works across three of the four floors; the first floor is reserved for artist residencies for theater and dance. The project aims to establish a non-institutional, grassroots incubator for visual arts and participatory culture. In addition to the exhibition, 'Here' will host conferences, performances, and live shows. The complex is located at via Verdi 9.
