1999 Budapest Exhibition 'Perspective' Explores Visual Representation from Renaissance to Digital Art

Between June 28 and August 22, 1999, Budapest's Mûcsarnok showcased 'Perspective,' an exhibition examining visual representation across five centuries, curated by Professors Miklós Peternák and László Beke. The display included historical pieces from L.B. Alberti, Brunelleschi, A. Dürer, along with Dutch and Italian artworks, geometric sketches, and architectural blueprints. Optical instruments from Werner Nekes's collection were featured, as were large red plastic sculptures by Szabolcs KsPál. Contemporary contributions included Jeffry Shaw's virtual text-world, Perry Hoberman's 'System Maintenance,' and Masaki Fujihata's 'Nuzzle Afar.' Hungarian artists Márton Fernezelyi and Zoltán Szegedy-Maszák presented 'Promenade.' The event also hosted a symposium and a film series titled 'Projected Perspective,' which examined changes in perception, with János Megyik highlighting its significance for modern art.
