1975 Slovenian Journal Problemi-Razprave Published Influential Editorial on Poststructuralism in Yugoslavia

In 1975, the Slovenian journal Problemi-Razprave published an editorial titled "Umetnost, družba/tekst" that introduced French post-structuralist thought to Yugoslav intellectual circles. This publication served as the primary platform for the Slovenian Lacanian school, becoming Yugoslavia's most significant conduit for French anti-humanist philosophy. The journal's conceptual framework drew heavily from French intellectual traditions, including the post-structuralist approaches of Tel Quel magazine, Louis Althusser's anti-humanist Marxism, and Jacques Lacan's theoretical psychoanalysis. A distinctive synthesis of Lacanian psychoanalysis and Althusserian ideology critique—characteristic of the French journal Cahiers pour l'Analyse—also informed the publication's orientation. Theoretical parallels existed between Problemi-Razprave and other French periodicals like Peinture, cahiers théoriques and Cahiers du cinéma. This editorial represented a singular effort to integrate structuralism, post-structuralism, and Lacanian psychoanalysis into Yugoslav discussions about art, culture, society, and ideology during that period.
