1954 Maserati A6G/54 2000 Spyder Zagato Expected to Fetch Over $4 Million at RM Sotheby's Auction
A one-off 1954 Maserati A6G/54 2000 Spyder Zagato, originally commissioned by Argentine president Juan Perón, is being offered in a sealed-bid online auction by RM Sotheby's. The car's unique design modifications requested by Perón—including a new grille, raised air intake, taller windshield, and chrome vents—helped it win the Jules Heumann Special Award for Most Elegant Open Car at the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The current owner, Southern California real-estate investor Chris Shane, purchased the vehicle at RM Sotheby's Monterey auction in 2022 for $2.995 million and subsequently commissioned a full mechanical restoration by Fast Cars in Redondo Beach, California. The Maserati's provenance includes ownership by American diplomat Louis W. Schroeder, U.S. Air Force lieutenant-colonel Sharrod Santos, and Angelo Ferro of the Genoa Racing Team, who stored it for nearly 30 years. After restoration in 2001, it won Best of Show at the 2005 Concorso Italiano. In 2010, it was acquired by UK-based Ferrari collector Brandon Wang and displayed at the Museo Panini in Modena and the Enzo Ferrari Museum. It sold for $4.455 million in 2013 to collector Oscar Davis. The auction closes May 20, with estimates north of $4 million.
