1950s America Through Magnum Photos at Palazzo del Governatore, Parma

The exhibition titled 'The 1950s. Storie americane dei grandi fotografi Magnum' is set to launch at Palazzo del Governatore in Parma, Italy, marking the inaugural edition of the Winter Jamboree festival. Organized by the Assessorato alla Cultura and Summer Jamboree in partnership with Magnum Photos, it showcases 82 black-and-white images (with a few in color) from 14 Magnum photographers, including Dennis Stock, Elliott Erwitt, and Eve Arnold. The exhibit features large silhouettes of Marilyn Monroe, a working jukebox, film clips, and a pinball machine. Thematic areas highlight notable figures, music, youth culture, and individual photographers, complemented by descriptive panels. The exhibition captures the dualities of 1950s America, including post-war optimism and racial segregation, while Eve Arnold reflects, 'It is the hardest thing in the world to take the banal and try to show how special it is.' This event sets the stage for the upcoming Winter Jamboree at Fiere di Parma.
