1929: Anne Frank's birth, Tina Modotti's exhibition, and Zegna's first commission to Ettore Pistoletto
The year 1929 saw three notable events in art and culture. Anne Frank was born on June 12 in Frankfurt; her diary later became a global symbol of the Holocaust. In December 1929, Tina Modotti held a retrospective at the National Library of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, advertised as 'the first revolutionary photographic exhibition in Mexico,' featuring a photograph of Julio Antonio Mella's typewriter with a Trotsky quote. Also in 1929, Ermenegildo Zegna commissioned painter Ettore Olivero Pistoletto to create a cycle of graffiti depicting ancient wool processing stages for the Lanificio Zegna. These works were later replaced by ten large canvases (1948-1952), now displayed in the exhibition 'Padre e Figlio' at three venues until October 13, 2019. Additionally, a 2019 docufilm on Anne Frank produced by 3D Produzioni and Nexo Digital in collaboration with Anne Frank Fonds Basel, Sky Arte, and Piccolo Teatro di Milano was screened in Italian cinemas in November 2019.
