1923 children's book by Tom Seidmann-Freud becomes animated film at Pinacoteca di Brera
The Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan has produced an animated film titled "Peregrin and the Giant Fish," based on the 1923 children's book "Die Fischreise" by Tom Seidmann-Freud, nephew of Sigmund Freud. The book tells the story of a boy named Peregrin who dreams of riding a giant goldfish to a city inhabited only by children, reflecting a utopian desire for peace before World War II. The film originated from a serendipitous connection between Schubert's "Winterreise" and the book's title during preparations for a cello and piano performance. It features music by Andrea Melis, text by James M. Bradburne, direction by Francesco Fei, and puppets by Compagnia Carlo Colla & Figli – Associazione Grupporiani. The film premiered on December 19 at Cinema Anteo in Milan and will screen again on December 26, 27, and 28. From December 30, it will be available worldwide on BreraPlus.
