19’40’’ Revives Radio Drama with Cassette Release of 'La Favola della Realtà'
The Italian subscription-based record label 19’40’’ has released its first audiocassette project, 'La Favola della Realtà', a radio drama commissioned by the association ALMARE. The work was first performed live at the Circolo del Design in Turin in November 2021. Co-founded by Enrico Gabrielli, Francesco Fusaro, and Sebastiano De Gennaro in 2016, 19’40’’ is known for blending high and popular culture with an anti-academic approach. This special edition cassette, illustrated by graphic designer Marina Benetti, features a text by philosopher Federico Campagna and music by Francesco Fusaro. The project draws on the tradition of 1950s and 1960s radio dramas and the sound fairy tales of the founders' childhoods. Fusaro describes the music as mirroring the text with short interventions that double the narrative, creating a subtly restless soundscape. The label's special releases are conceived as art objects on unconventional media with extremely limited print runs.
