18th Lyon Biennale to Explore Dream Imagery and Critical Analysis

The 18th Lyon Biennale, titled "Passer d'un rêve à l'autre," is scheduled to take place from September 19 to December 13, 2026, under the curation of Catherine Nichols. Following her successful direction of Manifesta 2022 in Kosovo, Isabelle Bertolotti selected Nichols for this role. The event will explore Lyon's traboules as a "labyrinthine network," drawing on Robert Filliou's writings to inspire a "new economic imaginary." More than half of the featured works will be newly created, supported by a budget of eight million euros. The Biennale will be hosted across ten venues, including macLyon, Grandes Locos, and Musée des Tissus, with over half of the participating artists being women and notable representation from Oceania, highlighting Nichols' emphasis on colonial memory and local identity.
