18 private collections converge at Piacenza's new XNL center

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In Piacenza, the new XNL center for contemporary arts, inaugurated in January thanks to the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano, presents 'La rivoluzione siamo noi', a group show curated by Alberto Fiz. The exhibition features 150 works from 18 private collections, including pieces by Maurizio Cattelan, Christo, Katja Novitskova, Mario Airò, and Giuseppe Penone. The show occupies the entire Galleria Ricci Oddi building, from basement to roof, and includes a site-specific work by Penone. Fiz selected a germinal Cattelan work from 1991, 'Cesena 47-A.C. Forniture Sud 12 (2° tempo)', depicting a football match between white reserves and black Senegalese workers, from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo collection. A tribute to Christo, who died in May, features three works from different collections. The exhibition explores affinities between collectors and artists, with sections on portraits/dedications, the collector's home environment, and themes like climate change (represented by Novitskova's bear). Public response has exceeded expectations, with strong interest in the dialogue between historical collections of Galleria Ricci Oddi and contemporary interventions.
