170 artists in 'Time is out of joint' at Rome's Galleria Nazionale

The Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome opens 'Time is out of joint' on October 11, 2016, featuring 500 works by 170 artists from Carla Accardi to Gilberto Zorio. The exhibition, curated by director Cristiana Collu with Saretto Cincinelli, takes its title from Shakespeare's Hamlet (also used by Philip K. Dick). It follows Collu's previous show 'The Lasting. L'Intervallo e la Durata' and continues exploring time. The display disregards chronology, pairing works by thematic and visual resonance. Highlights include 19th-century masters (Van Gogh, Cézanne, Courbet, Monet), historical avant-gardes (Boccioni, Russolo, Arp, Braque), and contemporary figures (Ontani, Baruchello, Schütte, Kosuth, Warhol, Mirò, Modigliani, De Dominicis). The exhibition serves as a reinstallation of the collections after recent museum renovations, including the reopening of Sala via Gramsci. A jazz performance by Gianluca Petrella and Paolo Fresu accompanies the opening. The show runs until April 15, 2018.
