16th-century Palazzo Cozza Caposavi in Bolsena opens contemporary art space
In 2025, the Palazzo Cozza Caposavi in Bolsena opened as a venue for contemporary art. Built around 1561 for Cardinal Tiberio Crispo, this palace has been owned by the Cozza Caposavi family for many years and boasts the largest private ancient art collection open to the public in Viterbo province. The stables were renovated through a collaboration between the Italian Historic Houses Association and Airbnb. The first exhibition featured Oliviero Rinaldi, curated by Francesco Cozza Caposavi and Francesca Perti. Following that, a show by Tommaso Cascella, curated by Claudio Strinati and supported by the Comune di Bolsena, ran from December 2025 to February 2026. Future exhibitions will highlight Ernesto Lamagna and Michele Stanzione. Bolsena, part of the Via Cassia, once attracted notable figures like Balthus and Federico Fellini. In the 20th century, gallerist Plinio de Martiis rented a farmhouse from the family, where artists like Alberto Burri and Cy Twombly created works, including one that sold for over €40 million at Christie's.
