exhibition · 2026-05-05

Achilleas Souras, a 16-year-old artist living in Barcelona but of Greek, English, and Eurasian origin, created SOS – Save Our Souls, an installation made from over 4,500 life jackets abandoned by migrants on Lesbos, Greece. The jackets were assembled into a first-reception igloo for the RefugArt project at the American School of Barcelona. The work has been exhibited at the Maritime Museum and Picasso Museum in Barcelona during the Big Draw event. In December, it will travel to Western Cape, South Africa, at the invitation of the South African Ministry of Culture, and in May 2017, it will be shown at the Triennale in Milan for a week. The article also mentions another young artist, 17-year-old Nenous Thabit, an Assyrian Christian who carves replicas of ancient statues destroyed by ISIS in Nimrud, Iraq, and has been noticed by CNN.
