16 Rudolph Schindler Homes Documented in Los Angeles

publication · 2026-05-18

Adam Štěch, an architectural historian, has organized a photographic exhibition featuring 16 houses designed by Rudolph Schindler in Los Angeles, highlighting the architect's contributions to modernism. Schindler (1887–1953), who emigrated to the United States in 1914 after studying at TU Wien and the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, initially worked with Frank Lloyd Wright. Over his career, he completed approximately 100 residential projects, including the Kings Road House (1922), which underwent restoration in 2003. Other notable homes in the exhibition include the How House (1925), Herman Sachs Apartments (1926), and the Phillip and Phyllis Schlessinger House (1954). Based in Prague, Štěch is also the author of 'Modern Architecture and Interiors'.
