16 artists create permanent public art in historic votive shrines of Parabita, Italy
In the town of Parabita, Lecce, a project called Votiva has transformed 16 traditional votive shrines into an impressive collection of modern art. Giovanni Lamorgese leads the effort, with Laura Perrone and Flaminia Bonino curating it. The exhibition includes unique works from a mix of Italian and international artists, including names like Francesco Arena, Chiara Camoni, and Michelangelo Pistoletto. These pieces, crafted from materials such as marble, terracotta, and gold leaf, are scattered throughout the historic area. Mayor Stefano Prete noted the role of contemporary art in enhancing public spaces and fostering inclusivity. The initiative kicked off on May 11 and also features an extra piece by Lamorgese near his studio, as part of the broader Parabita per il Contemporaneo effort.
