16 Arrested in DC Senate Building for Displaying Portraits of ICE Victims

On August 5, 2026, a group of sixteen protesters from the Women's March were taken into custody at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. They conducted a 'die-in' and showcased banners featuring images of individuals who lost their lives due to ICE actions. The artwork, created by Gianluca Costantini, depicted Alex Pretti, Renée Good, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Ruben Ray Martinez, Ryan Carol Kidd, Jonah Neal, Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, and two unnamed victims, accompanied by the words 'Killed by I.C.E.' The demonstration aimed to challenge senators who were supporting ICE funding prior to the August recess. Police seized the banners, zip-tied the demonstrators, and removed them. Additional banners proclaimed 'ICE Kills' and enumerated 54 fatalities in ICE custody. This protest contravened D.C. Code § 10-503.16, and Capitol Police had not yet addressed inquiries.
