15th Baltic Triennial Announces Theme and Artist List

festival-fair · 2026-04-24

The 15th Baltic Triennial, titled 'Same Day', will take place from September 6, 2024 to January 12, 2025 at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius. The theme is inspired by a 1984 poem by Greek poet Emerson from his unpublished collection 'Songs Without Music', found in the archives of photographer George Tourkovasilis. Curated by Tom Engels and Maya Tounta, the triennial features 55 participants including Rey Akdogan, Geta Brătescu, Tom Burr, Aria Dean & Laszlo Horvath, Simone Forti, Tarik Kiswanson, Klara Lidén, Ewa Partum, Cameron Rowland, Rosemarie Trockel, and others. Engels, artistic director of Grazer Kunstverein since 2021, was selected via an invitation-based competition by the Contemporary Art Centre, after which he invited Tounta, director of Akwa Ibom in Athens and co-founder of Montos Tattoo in Vilnius, as co-curator. The triennial was originally expected in mid-2024 but is now slated for fall 2024 to winter 2025.
