€15M Restoration for Superga Basilica in Turin

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

A €15 million restoration of the Basilica of Superga in Turin is set to take place, with financial backing from the City, Region, Ministries of Transport and Culture, and the State Property Agency. The Ministry of Transport is allocating €9 million, while the Ministry of Culture will provide €6 million over a span of three years. This initiative will employ Historical BIM for 3D documentation and aims to restore the crypt, convent, royal apartments, the monument to Umberto I, and the royal library, which will be digitized for public access. Enhancements for disabled visitors will also be made. Designed by Filippo Juvarra in 1715, the basilica honors the Virgin Mary's significance in the War of Spanish Succession and is associated with the 1949 Grande Torino tragedy. Sermig will oversee its management until 2030.
