15 Artists Reflect on War and Peace in Treviso Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'La guerra è finita! La pace non è ancora iniziata' at Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso, organized by Fondazione Imago Mundi, features 15 artists exploring the gap between war's end and true peace. The show opens with Ukrainian photojournalist Maxim Dondyuk's stark images of the Euromaidan revolt and the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, printed on fabric and stone. On the ground floor, works by British painter Terry Atkinson and Irish photographer Richard Mosse (documenting the Congo war) are displayed. Upstairs, the only surviving peace flag sewn by Aldo Capitini in 1961 is shown alongside video, photomontages, and installations by Alfredo Jaar (with a neon Gramsci quote), Ran Slavin (Tel Aviv), Harun Farocki (Gulf War), Sim Chi Yin (North Korea), and Eteri Chkauda (Georgia). Notable projects include Afghan war rugs from Fondazione Sergio Poggianella and Pedro Reyes's musical instruments made from 6,300 seized narcotics weapons, described as a 'requiem for the victims'. The exhibition concludes with Mario Merz's clay igloo bearing a neon quote from General Giap and JR's 'Les Enfants d'Ouranos' depicting refugee children from Greece, Rwanda, Mauritania, and Colombia. Curated by Fondazione Imago Mundi, the show runs at the former Habsburg prison in Treviso.
