14 UNESCO Sites in Southern Italy Form Network for Integrated Tourism
Launched in Matera, the 2019 European Capital of Culture, the Progetto Rete Siti Unesco initiative brings together 14 UNESCO World Heritage sites from Basilicata, Campania, Puglia, Sardinia, and Sicily. This project, backed by a €1,080,000 investment co-financed by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, seeks to enhance integrated tourism through technology. From July to September, the inaugural Festival of UNESCO Sites in the South will host events at venues such as Castello di Monte Sant'Angelo and Matera. Social media engagement will be promoted through digital invasions, beginning with "Aspettando il Tramonto" at the Trulli of Alberobello on July 21. A web portal will provide virtual tours and a tourist card for discounts.
