14 International Artists Create Anti-War Works for Italian Newspaper Domani

On March 6, 2022, the Italian weekly newspaper Domani released a special edition showcasing original pieces from 14 global artists in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Curated by Demetrio Paparoni, the collection features works such as a handprint by Antony Gormley, a military jet by Robert Longo, and Francesco Clemente's bleeding heart. Other notable contributions include Peter Halley's "Words. Not War" in yellow and blue, Monica Bonvicini's "I cannot hide my anger," Andrei Molodkin's "PUTIN" in blood red, Oleg Kulik's depiction of a man pursued by dogs with a Ukrainian flag, and Julian Schnabel's cover featuring "Nothing to be gained here" over a map of Ukraine. Paparoni engaged with artists worldwide, including those from Russia, stressing that remaining silent equates to complicity. Remarkably, the project was completed in just three days, with all artists halting their other commitments to participate. Paparoni remarked, "This is also the magic of art, which happens when things are done spontaneously and instinctively."
