130 Years of Lattes: Turin's Oldest Publishing House Celebrates with Exhibitions and EEPG Meeting

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Turin's historic publishing house, Lattes, marked its 130th anniversary this year, having been established in 1893 by Simone Lattes. The company has produced over a thousand titles and impacted more than 100 million students. The current CEO, also named Simone Lattes, represents the fifth generation of leadership. The celebration coincided with the European Educational Publisher Group's (EEPG) annual meeting, which included 24 publishers and reported a turnover of €1 billion. Ukrainian member Ranok contributed by offering free digital textbooks, leading to 24,000 downloads. Early notable authors published by Lattes include Massimo Bontempelli and Giovanni Bertinetti. Additionally, 2023 commemorates the centenary of Mario Lattes (1923-2001), recognized through two exhibitions. The headquarters, designed by Carlo Mollino, houses a letter from him dated January 7, 1953, and showcases 100 original plates by Emanuele Luzzati.
