13 Artists Live in Cells at Former Montefiascone Prison for Mezza Galera Residency
The Mezza Galera project, launched by Giorgio de Finis and the group Arte libera tutti, invited 13 artists to spend a week in the former Montefiascone prison in Lazio, where they had to work under strict conditions. Each artist reimagined their 8-square-meter cell as a conceptual space, with no phones or internet access, only one hour outdoors each day, and communal meals. Visitors could engage with the artists in the parlatorio without limits on time or numbers. After the artists were released on August 9, the transformed cells will be available for public viewing until August 17. The artists involved include Francesco Bancheri, Arianna Bonamore, Giovanni De Angelis, and others.
