12 artists create calendar for National Geographic's Planet or Plastic campaign
National Geographic has enlisted 12 artists from 12 countries most affected by ocean plastic pollution to create posters for its ongoing Planet or Plastic campaign. The artworks, compiled into a downloadable calendar on the National Geographic website, address the environmental and health impacts of non-biodegradable materials, with 9 million tons of plastic discarded annually. Each poster is accompanied by a video in which the artist explains their work. The participating countries are China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, India, and Bangladesh. The initiative follows last year's striking cover that transformed a plastic bag into an iceberg.
