11th Lyon Biennale Curated by Victoria Noorthoorn Opens with Literary and Theatrical Focus

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

The 11th Lyon Biennale, titled "Une terrible beauté est née," is taking place from September 15 to December 31, 2011, under the direction of Thierry Raspail and the curation of Victoria Noorthoorn. This exhibition is hosted at several venues, including the Sucrière, Fondation Bullukian, Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon, and T.A.S.E. factory. Noorthoorn prioritizes individual artists rather than regional representation, drawing inspiration from W.B. Yeats's poem "Easter" (1916). Among the artists showcased are Brazilians Leonora de Barros and Erika Verzutti, Peruvians Gabriel Acevedo Velarde and Fernando Bryce, Argentines Ernesto Ballesteros and Eduardo Basualdo, Mexicans Erick Beltran and Hector Zamora, and Colombians François Bucher and Bernardo Ortiz. Historical references include Alberto Giacometti and Samuel Beckett, with the catalogue featuring writings by Carlos Gamerro, Ruben Mira, and Alejandro Tantanian.
