11 International Artists Create Fountains for Leeuwarden 2018
The city of Leeuwarden earned the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018, which spurred the creation of the 11Fountains initiative. This project introduces eleven artistic fountains throughout the Friesland region, set to debut on May 18. Renowned artist Jaume Plensa has crafted the fountain in Leeuwarden, with others from Jorge & Lucy Orta in Sloten and Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla in Harlingen. Additional contributions come from artists including Cornelia Parker, Mark Dion, and others, with installations featured in cities such as Workum, Sneek, and Dokkum, showcasing unique sculptures and designs.
