100architects' Wired Scape: A Fluorescent Playground in Guangzhou
100architects, an international architecture and design studio, has completed Wired Scape, a public playground in Guangzhou, China. The design is inspired by the surrounding natural landscape, featuring a forest-like arrangement with four climbable trees at its center. Fluorescent, rounded forms and a continuous material thread connect various zones, including relaxation areas, play spaces, and workout circuits. A plaza serves as an amphitheater for gatherings and live performances. The playground is designed for year-round use, with canopies providing shelter from weather and sun, and a wired pavement system enabling scenic nighttime lighting. The layout ensures parents can supervise children from comfortable, convivial seating areas. 100architects, founded in 2013, operates with a multinational team from the UK, Italy, Spain, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, the UAE, and China, focusing on creative, inclusive public space projects. Wired Scape is their latest example of urban activation and spatial transformation.
