1-54 New York 2026 Returns with Afro-Brazilian Focus
From May 13 to May 17, 2026, the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Chelsea will host the twelfth edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. This year, over 20 exhibitors from 12 nations, including newcomers from São Paulo, Lagos, Nassau, and Bermuda, will display contemporary art reflecting Africa and its diaspora. A highlight will be the curated section '1-54 Presents: Brazil Beyond Brazil,' overseen by curator Igor Simões, focusing on Afro-Brazilian art and emphasizing Brazil's status as the largest nation of African descent outside Africa. New participants include Adegbola Gallery, Aura, Black Pony Gallery, and others, while returning galleries consist of 193 Gallery, DozieArts, and more. The fair will also feature notable artists such as Chéri Chérin and Marcel Gotène. Additionally, a lounge celebrating Moroccan culture will be curated by ONMT. Further special projects and discussions will be revealed later.
