1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair Launches Paris Edition at Christie's

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, founded by Touria El Glaoui, is launching a new edition in Paris from January 20 to 23, 2021, in collaboration with Christie's. The fair will be held at Christie's Avenue Matignon. This move comes shortly after the UK's exit from the European Union on January 1, 2021, and is seen as a strategic test of the Paris market amid Brexit uncertainties. The Paris edition features 19 galleries and includes a virtual component, 1-54 Online, as well as the 1-54 Forum program of conferences, screenings, performances, and workshops curated by LE 18, a multidisciplinary art space in Marrakech. The forum will run during the fair and throughout February. Access for VIP guests is by online reservation, with limited capacity and mandatory masks. The fair already has editions in London (since 2013), New York (since 2015), and Marrakech (since 2018).
