0E1 Arquitetos Raises Steel-Framed House Above Sloping Forest Site in Brazil
Located in the mountainous forest of Canela, 0E1 Arquitetos has finalized the House in Canela, a weekend getaway spanning 120 sqm, intended for two couples and aimed at reducing environmental impact. The residence is positioned on a 500 sqm lot that slopes down 15 meters. To preserve the existing vegetation, a multidisciplinary team carefully mapped the area to prevent tree removal. The building's footprint adheres to the condominium's minimum requirements, utilizing a concrete base and a lightweight steel frame to avoid the need for concrete mixers on site. Its exterior incorporates trapezoidal sandwich panels for enhanced thermal efficiency. Inside, white walls blend into Tauari wood panels, complemented by a black slate floor. The asymmetrical roof features a skylight for natural light. Construction commenced in 2021 and concluded in 2024, with the slate acquiring a greenish patina due to humidity.
