Quattro principali gruppi paramilitari lealisti dei Troubles
I Troubles in Irlanda del Nord (fine anni '60–1998) coinvolsero non solo paramilitari repubblicani come l'IRA, ma anche diversi gruppi lealisti determinati a mantenere l'Irlanda del Nord nel Regno Unito. I quattro principali gruppi lealisti erano l'Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), l'Ulster Defence Association (UDA), il Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) e il Red Hand Commando (RHC). L'UVF, formatosi nel 1965–66, fu il più attivo, responsabile di oltre 500 morti. L'UDA, formatasi nel 1971 come organizzazione ombrello, contava fino a 40.000 membri e compiva omicidi settari sotto il nome copertura di Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF). Il LVF, fondato nel 1996 da Billy Wright dopo la sua espulsione dall'UVF, uccise almeno 19 persone prima di cessare le operazioni nel 2005. Il RHC, formatosi nel 1970, era un piccolo gruppo segreto strettamente legato all'UVF, ufficialmente responsabile di 13 morti. I gruppi lealisti causarono collettivamente il 29% delle vittime totali dei Troubles (1.073 morti), con la maggior parte della violenza verificatasi dall'inizio degli anni '90 fino all'Accordo del Venerdì Santo (1998). L'UVF e il RHC smantellarono le armi nel giugno 2009; l'UDA completò lo smantellamento nel 2010.
