Yolaine Voltz: Restoring Fans and Globes, a Rare Craft on the Brink of Oblivion

Since 2010, Yolaine Voltz has been recognized as a Maître Artisan d'Art, focusing on the restoration of antique globes and fans at her studio, L'Utile Zéphyr. After completing her studies at the École de Condé and an internship at the Musée de l'Éventail de Paris, she established her workshop. Her fascination with globes began during her time at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, where she worked on the Coronelli Globes. Voltz prioritizes reversibility in her restoration techniques and has trained under renowned fan-maker Sylvain Le Guen. In 2023, she was awarded the Médaille de l'Excellence de l'artisanat d'art and became part of the Per Durare program to advocate for rare crafts. She also teaches at museums and aspires to mentor students in her studio.
