The residence of the iconic Japanese filmmaker Yasujirō Ozu, situated in Kita-Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, is now listed as a guesthouse on Airbnb. Ozu resided there with his mother from 1952 until his passing in 1963. The estate spans a 900-square-metre sloped area and features a 120-square-metre main house constructed from hinoki cypress and cedar, topped with a curved tiled roof, along with an 80-square-metre annex. A carpenter skilled in temple restoration handled the renovation, ensuring many original elements remain, such as tatami mats and shoji screens. The living room, where Ozu created his films, boasts stunning mountain vistas. A new outdoor cypress bath (rotenburo) has also been introduced. Managed by Hinomoto Japan, the project is overseen by Yoshiki Ogura, who, along with his family, has maintained the house's charm while updating its facilities. Guests have the option to prepare meals with local produce or engage a private chef.
