Whitney Museum and Mayor Mamdani Launch World Cup Poster Project

A collaborative initiative has been unveiled by Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City and the Whitney Museum of American Art, allowing free entry for visitors who create a World Cup-themed art poster. From July 11 until the month's end, individuals who present a completed poster—crafted by artist Rich Tu, known for designing FIFA's official poster for the New York and New Jersey tournament—will gain complimentary access. The project, available in both English and Spanish, invites participants to respond to the theme "where the world comes to play," including a headline, tagline, and main visual. This effort is co-organized by Mamdani, the New York-New Jersey Host Committee, and the Whitney, following the Knicks' NBA championship victory and the introduction of free Metropolitan Museum of Art memberships for SNAP recipients. On July 12, Tu will also lead a special event at the Whitney during West Side Fest, offering free admission for everyone. Mamdani emphasized that this partnership aims to ensure that the World Cup spirit is shared among all New Yorkers, centering art and accessibility in this historic summer.
