Wallpaper* selects 15 essential graphic design books

Wallpaper* magazine has curated a list of 15 graphic design books spanning modernist British design, Italian vernacular typography, Pentagram's brand identities, and crisp packet art. The collection includes Nigel Cottier's 'Alphabet Playground' on experimental letterforms, '1,000 Marks' covering Pentagram's logos from 1972 to the present, and a volume on British modernist graphic design as a postwar movement. Luca Lattuga's book documents Italian movable type from the 1920s-1940s. John Morgan's posthumous selection of 31 muse volumes was completed before his death in September 2025. Andy Altmann's collection of 'tat' includes football cards and sweet wrappers. Other titles cover logo design, hand lettering, football club crests, Japanese layout design, and 2010s American advertising. The list was compiled by digital staff writer Anna Solomon, who joined Wallpaper* in early 2025.
