Villa Beer in Vienna Reopens After Restoration as Key Example of Second Viennese Modernism

The Villa Beer in Vienna has reopened to the public in early March following extensive renovation work. This marks the first time in the building's varied history that it is accessible to the general public. Located in the Hietzing Cottage area, a villa district near Schönbrunn Palace, the structure was designed by Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach and constructed between 1929 and 1930. It is considered a masterpiece of the Second Viennese Modernism movement, which flourished during the period of Social Democratic governance in Vienna from 1919 to 1934, often referred to as Red Vienna.
