Vestry House Museum to Relaunch in 2026 Following Major Renovation

Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow Village, East London, is scheduled to reopen in autumn 2026 after a significant refurbishment project. The initiative, led by Waltham Forest Council, involves a sensitive renovation of the 18th-century building complex to improve accessibility and infrastructure. The redesign, executed by GuM Studio and Studio Weave with curation by Claire Mead, introduces five permanent galleries, a temporary exhibition space, a learning room, a café, and creative workspaces. The museum's collection of over 100,000 objects will be displayed in new thematic galleries exploring local production, landscape evolution, hidden histories, leisure, health, and migration. The project, supported by £4.5 million in funding including contributions from the UK Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to increase annual visitors to 80,000 and provide educational and employment opportunities.
