Venice Museum to Restore Bellini Masterpiece with Public Viewing Access

The Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice will undertake a two-year restoration of Giovanni Bellini's 15th-century San Giobbe Altarpiece, allowing visitors to observe the process through glass. The project, costing approximately €500,000, addresses issues including surface cracks from temperature changes and pigment discoloration. Created between 1478 and the late 1480s, this work represents a significant development in Venetian altarpiece tradition. The museum is collaborating with Venetian Heritage on this conservation effort, which follows previous interventions in the 19th and 20th centuries that created new preservation challenges.
