USPS Releases Commemorative Stamps Celebrating Lowrider Car Culture

The United States Postal Service has issued a new series of stamps featuring lowrider automobiles, celebrating the Mexican American and Chicano cultural tradition. The stamps showcase five customized vehicles: a 1946 Chevrolet Fleetline, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala, a 1963 Chevrolet Impala, a 1964 Chevrolet Impala, and a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass. USPS art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamps using photography by Philip Gordon and Humberto 'Beto' Mendoza to capture the detailed craftsmanship. The stamps are wider than standard commemorative issues and incorporate Gothic typography and pinstriping by artist Danny Alvarado. This release occurs as the USPS faces financial challenges, with Postmaster General David Steiner recently warning of potential service disruptions within a year.
