UNED Summer Course: From Travelers to Tourists in Spanish Artistic Heritage (16th-20th Centuries)

A UNED summer course running from June 29 to July 1, 2026, explores the evolution from travelers to tourists and their impact on the internationalization of Spanish artistic heritage. The program covers five centuries, from 16th-century voyagers to the 20th-century tourist boom, examining how foreign travelers shaped Spain's artistic image and consolidated tourist itineraries. Speakers include Borja Franco Llopis, Sergio Ramiro Ramírez, Daniel Crespo Delgado, José Vigara Zafra, Luis Sazatornil Ruiz, Ana Cabrera Lafuente, María J. Feliciano Chaves, and Iñaki Estella Noriega. Topics range from early modern travel literature and the Grand Tour to 20th-century state-run accommodations and the 'touristification' of Hispanic identity in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
