Underwater Archaeologist Discovers Second Medieval Sword Off Israeli Coast

In 2021, diver Shlomi Katzin found a 900-year-old iron sword off Dor Beach in Israel. Recently, he discovered another similar weapon nearby. Katzin, an underwater archaeologist at the University of Haifa, reported both finds to the Israel Antiquities Authority. Researchers used CT scanning to examine the second sword, dating it to the 12th century and noting it likely originated in Europe. While some speculate these artifacts may relate to Crusader activity, historians caution against automatically linking medieval objects from the region to that specific historical context.
